English Night is an event of lightning talks by software developers where everyone MUST speak English.

I participate it for the first time, but in the first place, I was short of breath just by concentrating and listening to English, so in the end I ended up speaking no words.
I participated in this event for the first time.
My breath was shallow and what I could was just concentrated what they talked about.
I end up not saying anything.
It is difficult for me to understand what someone say in English and don’t know what to response
I also found that I need to practice to listen long English conversation not to get tired of it.
Next time, I plan to go with the LT slot.

先日、「English Night」というオンラインイベントに参加しました。

初めて参加しましたが、そもそも自分は集中して英語を聞くだけで息切れするので、結局、一言も喋らずに終わりました。
私は、瞬発力を鍛える必要がある事はわかっていました。（聞いた英語をすぐに理解して、返答する事ができない）

In the first place はそもそも、第一にといった意味ですので、この文には合ってない。
修正例：

I knew I needed to train my instantaneous.(I can’t understand and respond to the English I hear right away.)
