Hey! How was your Christmas?
Many Japanese people eat Kentucky Fried Chicken for Christmas, but is it true that people who live overseas don’t believe it?

Katie

Actually, many people do know that Japanese people have KFC for Christmas and they find it funny!
One Japanese fast food restaurant tried to copy KFC to market themselves for Christmas!

me

Really? Is it famous?
Then, what do they eat for Christmas?

Katie

Traditionally, they eat turkey, roast vegetables / pork and Christmas pudding!

me

OK! I don’t know what “Christmas pudding” is, so I searched it in Google Images.
It looks cute!

Katie

Christmas pudding looks yummy but it tastes quite spicy and heavy so I don’t like it very much haha

me

Even though it looks so sweet, it’s spicy?
I wouldn’t have guessed!

Katie

Yes, they use lots of different spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and candied citrus fruits as well as strong alcohol like cognac!
It is quite heavy so if you eat too much you might get heart burn!

me

Oh! I didn’t know that.
Some Christmas puddings on Google Images are on fire!
What’s this? Is it normal?

Katie

I found this explanation.
“It’s said that the flaming brandy represents the Passion of Christ and traditionally there were 13 ingredients in the pudding, said to represent Christ’s 13 disciples.”
